It’s a no-brainer that the main protagonist of the Halo series is John-117, also known as Master Chief. However, the cover for The Official Xbox Magazine’s July issue mentioned a “new hero” for the said title. Although the addition of new maps and new villains are already known, it will make gamers wonder about the new hero.
Halo 4: Background Story
Halo 4 is the eighth installment in the Halo franchise. Being developed by 343 Industries for Xbox 360, it is the first part of the new Reclaimer Trilogy. Set for a worldwide release on November 6, 2012, the game continues some time after the ending of Halo 3. It will also mark the return of Master Chief, while Cortana will also make an appearance on the game.
Having been lost in space in the finale of Halo 3, Master Chief and Cortana will find themselves near a mysterious Forerunner planet. The game will involve changes to Cortana and how her exposure to Halo and extended operation may have caused her becoming “rampant.”
Instead of focusing on its first-person shooter genre, Halo 4 will rely more on mystery, exploration and discovery. Described as being grand in scope and scale, Forerunner elements will be featured extensively in the game. It will also reveal how humanity and UNSC was able to adapt to the galaxy following their war with the Covenant.
What to Watch Out For in Halo 4
Last week, 343 Industries revealed that Halo 4 will feature new maps and villains. Coming from scratch are two new maps called Warhouse and Wraparound. Warhouse is basically a giant military base with a giant mecha-like structure being constructed at the center of it. The Wraparound, on the other hand, is described as a “looping structure” with tons of up and down combat.
Other than the maps, gamers should also check out the Crawlers and Watchers. They are most likely to be part of Master Chief’s new set of enemy in Halo 4, as the Covenant won’t play a large part on the game.
It has been pointed a couple of times that Halo 4 is all about Master Chief and his background. There were no new characters mentioned, and the existence of a new hero would slightly diminish the role of the main protagonist. Nevertheless, the news could still make sense because Halo is evolving, and with a new trilogy comes a new character.
It will be interesting to see who the new hero would be. Hopefully, OXM will come out with a future issue, shedding some light on this subject.
