Samsung launched its Galaxy S III last Tuesday in 28 countries across Europe and the Middle East, where it is said to compete against Apple’s iPhone 4S. The company expects their new flagship smartphone to be available in 145 countries on 296 wireless carriers by the end of July.
On the other hand, there were no reports on whether the handset will reach the US, but there have been claims that the mobile phone will be available there by mid to late June.
Samsung Galaxy S III Features
As AMOG reported earlier this month, the Samsung Galaxy S III has a 1.4 GHz Samsung Exynos quad-core processor, which has four ARM Cortex-A9 cores. That’s why the handset can be “twice as powerful while using 20% less power.”
It also features 1 GB of RAM and internal capacities of 16, 32, and 64 GB. The handset has a 4.8-inch AMOLED screen, which contributes to its slightly larger size of 136.6 x 70.6 mm. It also sports Samsung’s TouchWiz user interface and runs on Android 4.0.4. The phone manufacturer also added smart features to its new handset: Smart Stay, Smart Alert, and S Voice.
Smart Stay switches the display on and off depending on whether someone is looking at the screen or not. Smart Alert will display missed calls or notifications once the device is picked up using a built-in accelerometer. Lastly, Samsung Galaxy S III offers the S Voice, which enables users to unlock their phone, control the music player, and capture images using voice commands.
The company decided to focus on adding new software to its latest flagship smartphone to make it unique, instead of concentrating on creating a different feel and design. This could be attributed to the fact that they are facing litigations from Apple.
Taking On Apple’s iPhone
There is significant hype surrounding the Samsung Galaxy S III, as it is expected to outsell its S II predecessor. The Galaxy product line is comprised of Android smartphones that are designed to take on Apple’s iPhone. In fact, Reuters published a report last Tuesday, comparing the handset’s launch to an iDevice debut. The report noted that about 50 customers were lined up outside of BASE mobile shop in Berlin last Monday.
Samsung Galaxy S III hits the shelves just months before Apple is set to release its next-generation iPhone. There are rumors suggesting that the Cupertino-based company will release its upcoming handset this October.
