When Jay-Z purchased The New Jersey Nets and turned the team into The Brooklyn Nets, people should have expected major changes. And we’re not only talking about the game, strategy and marketing ways. We’re also talking images, form of entertainment and other possible changes the mogul might tap into, including the hottest part of the game: the cheerleaders. Dancers, if you will.
The Brooklynettes are now equipped with a new set of gear that ‘rasied eyebrows’ due to its… sexiness. Without further ado, here’s what we’re talking about:

High boots, lots of leather, zippers and latex. Designer David Dalrymple who’s responsible for the costumes stated:
“The uniforms are feminine and strong. This isn’t palm trees and sunshine. It’s New York City, and it’s Brooklyn. It’s a different sensibility. We go hard. For these costumes, we needed things that these women can dance and move in, but we wanted to bring in street elements. We needed to find that bridge of street fashion that can actually work on the court.”
Dalrymple has collaborated with Patricia Field and did the costumes for Sex and the City and The Devil Wears Prada in the past, so he must know his stuff. However some folks out there aren’t actually feeling it. Julee Wilson of the Huffington Post Black Voices said of the new look:
“The jailhouse stripes, leather-esque fabric and ‘Brooklyn’ emblazed boots make these ladies look like they could definitely rough up the other NBA cheer squads — but let’s just skip the battling and stick with booty-shaking at halftime.”
Ouch.
We think they’re sizzling hot. Because just like Dalrymple knows style, we know what sexy means.
