Regardless if the NFL and NFLPA reach a new CBA, there will still be a NFL draft on April 28 to 30. Two of the draft picks that I’ll be paying extra attention to are Casey Matthews, younger brother to Super Bowl champ Clay, and Mike Pouncey, twin brother of the Steelers’ center Maurkice. In fact, during the course of the NFL’s existence there have been some 300 sets of brothers. That doesn’t include father and son pairs or cousins. Because of this, we decided to take a look at the top eight current collection of NFL relatives.
8. Chris and Ma’ake Kemoeatu
The brothers are both lineman, except on different sides of the ball. Chris is an offensive lineman who has played for the Steelers since 2005, meanwhile older brother Ma’ake is a defensive lineman that has been on the Ravens, Panthers and currently the Redskins. Both went to school at Utah and are of Tongan descent, along with many other players like Haloti Ngata, Deuce Lutui and Tony Moeaki.
7. Santana and Sinorice Moss
Both bothers are wide receivers and have played in the Big Apple at one point in their careers. Santana spent 2001-2004 as a Jet and is currently in Washington. Younger brother Sinorice spent the 2006-2010 seasons with the Giants and was recently signed to the Eagles, which means, that the brothers will face each other at least twice a year yet again. The brothers Moss also attended the University of Miami.
6. Thomas and Julius Jones
Another set of brothers playing the same position. Thomas has been the running back for the Cardinals, Bucs, Bears, Jets and currently Chiefs since joining the league in 2000. Younger brother Julius has played for the Cowboys, Seahawks and Saints since being drafted in 2004.
5. Rob, Chris and Dan Gronkowski
These three brothers made many headlines last season since they became the first trio of brothers to play simultaneously in the NFL since the Baldingers (Brian, Rich and Gary) from 1986 to 1992. Rob is tight end for the Patriots, Chris plays fullback for the Cowboys and Dan is a tight end for the Broncos. The Gronkowski’s also have two younger brothers, Gordie, Jr. and Glenn who could very well become future professional athletes themselves.
4. Vernon and Vontae Davis
Vernon Davis, who is one of the best tight ends currently in the league, has played for the 49ers since 2006 while younger brother Vontae is a cornerback for the Dolphins.
3. Le’Ron and Rolando McClain
Le’Ron is a 2x All-Pro fullback for the Ravens while his cousin Rolando, a middle linebacker, was the eighth overall pick for the Raiders in the 2010 Draft and recipitant of the Butkus Award in 2009. The cousins also both attended the University of Alabama, but missed out of playing together by one season.
2. Antonio Cromartie and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie
This pair of cousins are two of the top cornerbacks in the league. Antonio spent three seasons with the Chargers before going to the Jets in 2010. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie has spent his entire career with the Arizona Cardinals since being drafted by Arizona in 2008.
1. Peyton and Eli Manning
Obviously the number one spot. Peyton is one of the greatest quarterbacks ever while younger brother Eli is hiking the ball for the Giants. Oh yeah, both are Super Bowl champs and avid Oreo fans.
