When you normally think of a pet, you think of a cat, a dog, or maybe even something slightly exotic such as a rabbit or ferret. Depending on the breed, these are all things that can draw a woman in – they find these pets cuddly and irresistible.
How about other kinds of pets? Some are fascinating to men, but are sure to send the gals running for the hills.
Rodents
Though the name “rodent” seems to have a negative connotation to it, some rodents are cute and cuddly, such as hamsters and guinea pigs. However, there are a few rodents that would be sure to creep out any gal.
Rats
There are pet shops and individuals who sell rats for pets, although I don’t think you’ll win any points with the ladies this way. All women think about is the dirty, disease ridden creatures that they fear having in their house. Truth be told, owning a rat isn’t that much different from owning a hamster.
Mice
Though you may fair a little better with mice than with rats, a lot of women still have problems. They just can’t get past the fact that these are unwanted intruders in their homes and are often why they purchase their first cat.
Insects and Creepy Crawlies
It’s no secret that women detest insects – they’re unclean, not the least bit cuddly, and downright ugly. Here’s a list of a few that will surely unsettle a woman. If you live with your girl, a big fear will be that the creepy crawlies will get out of their aquarium or container, and could lead to some unwanted circumstances.
Praying Mantis
Though praying mantises are completely harmless and rather interesting to look at, a woman may find them too large and rather repulsive. She may find comfort in the knowledge that there’s a good chance your praying mantis won’t live past a year old. Of course if you really think this will calm her down, then you’re not much smarter than a praying mantis.
Hissing Cockroach
The Madagascar hissing cockroach can be a great pet and is very intriguing to men. Just watch a woman’s reaction if you bring one into her domain or even have it at your own place while she’s there. Cockroaches are not only one of the main insects that women despise the most – there is not enough room for both her and your new pet.
Scorpion
Some men seem to be drawn to dangerous pets and find them fascinating. A scorpion, however, is poisonous, and women don’t want them around. Also, scorpions feed on crickets. If you’re trying to creep out your woman, a scorpion would be a “double whammy” because you’d not only have the scorpion, but you’d also have crickets they need to eat.
Tarantula
Tarantulas are interesting pets, very easy to care for and make absolutely no noise. Does this sound like a great pet? Well, you can bet that a woman wouldn’t agree. Spiders are enemies to a lot of women and tarantulas are at the top of the enemy spider list.
Lizards
Women see lizards as slimy, ugly and disgusting. If you find that she’s willing to have a lizard in her house as a pet, then you’ve found a “keeper”. Here is a couple of lizards that make awesome pets.
Green Anoles, Chameleons and Geckos
Green anoles, chameleons, and geckos all make cool pets and only need to be fed 2 or 3 times per week. The problem is that even if a woman will tolerate these moderately sized lizards, she’ll hate the fact that the lizard eats insects like crickets.
Bearded Dragons and Iguanas
Each of these types of lizards are very large and can be intimidating to a woman, though they’re truly harmless. Alas, they too like to much on those hated insects.
Snakes
Snakes are another creature that’s off limits to most women. All they think about are the poisonous ones and don’t even consider that these would make interesting pets. Could you imagine if your pet snake got loose in a chick’s house?
The most popular types of snakes for pets are boa constrictors and pythons. The important thing is to respect the snake, but also know that they’re relatively docile; keep it in its aquarium at all times when a woman is around – unless you want to really alarm her.
Piranhas
Most women are okay with a nice aquarium full of fish. Some may even find it relaxing, soothing, or peaceful. If you do decide to own a piranha, you should know that they eat a variety of things, so they’re easy to feed. They eat shrimp, small fish, mealworms, crickets, – and small children. If you have a woman in your life that’s apprehensive about a piranha, make sure to tell her that piece of information. See if she laughs like I’m sure you did.
So, there you have it: the best list of pets guaranteed to repel women. This use can come in handy if you need a good laugh, want to annoy your wife or girlfriend, or just have too many women on your hands and just want to thin them out a little.

To be fair, many of my pussy friends, male and female, don't like most of those creepy crawlies.
As a mouse owner who has raised black African millipedes, hatched praying mantises and giant moths, bred meal worms in school, owned an iguana and anoles, still delightfully recall the tale of how I met Garry Dunn and pet his hissing cockroach, I have to say my also owning a vagina has not stopped me from enjoying these delightful pets.
You should re-title this article: Manly Pets For Gender Stereotype Trolls.
Are you kidding me?
i no rite!! Animals like that are jus plain nasty!!
I’m a woman and the only creature on this list I haven’t considered getting at one time or another is the hissing cockroach. Unfortunately the landlord is pretty restrictive so I’ll have to stick with just my hedgehog and goldfish for now.
I have never heard of a roach called a HISSING COCKROACH!! i will neve eva eva eva eva consider getting that as a pet or anything lik that!!!!!
i have experimented with hissing cockroaches in 6th grade, apparently only the males hiss.
I'm a woman. I concur with Anon. Only one that gave me pause was the cockroack. As for the small children eating from the piranha…. my first thought was, "Excellent!!!"
As a chick, let me just say over the years I've kept 5 of these pets. The big tattooed butch husband? He went & got us a fluffy white kitty. I think he just wanted something normal in the house.
I agree with all of the other ladies above. I've owned rats, snakes, tarantulas, and I'll be getting a mantis from a breeder soon. I'm not a feminist by any means, but dude, seriously? This is ridiculous. I know freakin' girly girls that "aww" over reptiles.
Am woman. Have owned everything but the piranha. Wouldn't consider getting one because I don't like cleaning fishtanks–but, they don't creep me out.
Ta ladies.
I forgot to mention that my hedgehog is given snacks in the form of crickets and various worms, usually canned, sometimes fresh.
this is a nice article but you seem to have left out raptors
Bezackly what I was thinking, ladies. Only one I would have a problem with is the cockroach.
These aren't even gross… I use most of them for masturbating and foreplay.
Nice piece of sexist trash. I'm a guy and I'm creeped out by most of these things.
Reading the comments i must say, these ladies have more balls than me thats for sure! xD
Rats make really cool pets.
I love rats and other rodents! I used to have some for pets. I also adore lizards. Fish and bugs, yeah those are gross.
Fun article, but I'm also a girl. I don't like any of the insect pets….but snakes and lizards are amazing and I'd have no problem with the rodents.
errr..
I'm a vet student. I'm a girl. And, in case you weren't aware, so are about 85% of my classmates. So, when your bearded dragon attacks (and tries to eat) your hissing cockroach, who do you think you're going to have to take the little many-legged wonder to to get patched up?
Snakes and scorpions are VENOMOUS not poisonous. (But they are still not a hit with the ladies.)
Gotta love the effort you put into this blog
What utter misogynistic twaddle.
Hmm, let’s see: had a pet mouse, a tarantula (ate live insects I caught), a python (ate live rats I caught), a coral snake, newts (blind ones, I had to take their eyes for my witchy potions), a bat (flying mouse! eeeek!). I have not had fish as I consider them a painfully boring waste of time, but would DEFINITELY reconsider that opinion for piranhas! I know several small children I could happily do without!
PLEASE. I've owned mice and lizards before, and tarantulas are fun to pet (my friend has one). Everything there is a-ok with me. Except that absolutely disgusting cockroach. Any sensible HUMAN BEING wouldn't want that as a pet. Ugh.
This is a stupid post, i'm the chick with all the "creepy crawly" pets and it usually grosses out my man.
I'm a woman who happens to find them all fascinating.I study Anoles here in Florida and go to reptile shows also.
