It’s quite rare. Some people love it. Some find it horrible. Heterochromia is a difference in coloration in the eye. Heterochromia is a result of the relative excess or lack of melanin pigment. Most cases of heterochromia are hereditary, caused by a disease or syndrome, or due to an injury. Sometimes one eye may change color following certain diseases or injuries, bleeding within the eye, inflammation within the eye, eye tumors, or other conditions.

Eye color, specifically the color of the irises, is determined primarily by the concentration and distribution of melanin. Heterochromia of the eye is of two kinds.

In complete heterochromia, one iris is a different color from the other.
