It was back on June 28, 1953 when the first Corvette was assembled in Flint. It was to be shown at GM Motorama and only 300 were made. 60 years later, Chevy will be unveiling the seventh-generation Chevrolet Corvette, when the doors open at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on January 13, 2013.
On this upcoming Sunday, the world will get its first glimpse of the 2014 C7 Corvette, but you can check out some spy photos from Car And Driver for now.
Chevy has kept the car pretty well-hidden, in terms of releasing all the details. However, that hasn’t stopped people from anticipating the unveiling. In fact, it’s probably safe to say that the C7 is going to steal the show. So, here’s what we do know.
The C7 has been inspired by the 2009 Corvette Stingray Concept. It will weigh under 1500kg with carbon fiber floor, hydroformed-aluminium main member and magnesium cross-member. And, of course, will have a V8, putting out about 450 horsepower and over 600Nm of torque. Even more interesting is that the C7 will be “green.” When driven gently, the car’s cylinder deactivation technology will shut down four of the cylinders, which will assist in giving the car excellent fuel economy. Finally, people will be able to choose between an eight-speed automatic or seven-speed manual transmission when the C7 is available for purchase in the summer/fall of 2014.
To get the public excited for the debut of the C7, Chevy has been releasing a series of promo videos, which all promise big things for the newest Corvette.
At a price tag of over $50,000, the C7 won’t be a cheap car, and without knowing everything about it, it’s difficult to say whether or not the C7 will be worth the price. That will hopefully change after Chevy unveils the C7 in Detroit, which will be streamed if you can’t make it in person.
So, are you amped for the 2014 C7 Corvette? Or, is it all over-hyped?
