Considered as the black sheep of luxury sports sedan, the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide’s 470 hp, 5.9-liter V-12 engine has always fallen short of the competition. Worse, the car costs more than $200,000. Because of this, the British car manufacturer has decided to refresh the said model for 2013.
Under the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide’s Skin
It was reported that the automaker is working on a mid-cycle update for its Rapide. The model was first launched in 2010, but it has received little updates since then. The car’s prototypes were spotted hitting the road around Europe for testing, showing only subtle changes compared to its would-be predecessor.
In relation to this, there were claims that Aston Martin is fitting the 2013 Vanquish’s 5.9-liter V-12 plant into the slightly redesigned Rapide. This engine technology produces 565 hp, so as the upcoming model won’t compete against the baseline model and Vanquish.
It is possible that the vehicle will feature a 545 hp range to give it a boost against its competitor. There is also the possibility that changing its engine system could top the 510 hp of the outgoing DBS model. However, a power boost is not enough to bring the 2013 Aston Martin in front of the competition, although it could level out the market for a bit.
Other than its engine system, the prototypes also indicated that the updated Rapide will feature new bumpers and some additional aero pieces. The car is also expected to have a suite of chassis upgrades, which includes revisions to the Touchtronic 2 six-speed automatic transmission. In addition, the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide may feature an updated stiffer suspension, carbon fiber components, as well as carbon ceramic brakes.
The 2013 Aston Martin Rapide S
As for a higher-performance 2013 Rapide S, it was reported that the car model is not in the works. Moreover, a redesigned 2013 Aston Martin will no longer require the automaker to create an S model because of the upcoming car’s additional horsepower.
Provided that they won’t change the next Rapide’s base price, it looks nice for Aston Martin to make its overly priced sedan a little worth its cost. But it still remains to be seen whether someone would be willing to shell out more than $200,000 for this “luxurious” car.
The development of the 2013 Aston Martin Rapide is still underway, but it is possible that it will be revealed within the next six months.
