As the current BMW M3 model is nearing its refresh, the auto maker decided to create a limited Lime Rock Park edition of the vehicle. There will be 200 BMW M3 Lime Rock Park cars that are set to be released this fall to celebrate the Connecticut racetrack.
BMW and Lime Rock Partnership
Lime Rock racing circuit owner Skip Barber collaborated with BMW to design the BMW M3 Lime Rock Park edition, which will only come in fire orange. As Barber describes it, the upcoming vehicle will be “a classic car for a classic track.”
The race track owner also explained how the balanced, linear driving dynamics of the BMW M3 Coupe is a perfect match for the Lime Rock Park’s challenging circuit:
A newcomer looks at the track map and thinks, ‘Oh, this is easy.’ It’s not. Lime Rock is an extremely difficult track to drive quickly. It has three of what many drivers think are some of the most challenging corners in North America: The Uphill, West Bend, and The Downhill… And the BMW M3 Coupe Lime Rock Park edition, when equipped with the six-speed manual, is geared perfectly—and I mean—perfectly for the track.
Inside BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Edition
The BMW M3 Lime Rock Park edition will be built based on the M3 coupe foundation, with select enhancements courtesy of Barber and Lime Rock Park. It will have an interior design that features anthracite and black cloth seating with nappa leather trim. It also includes the car manufacturer’s Competition package, as well as M3’s available carbon-fiber roof. The vehicle also boasts a lightweight titanium exhaust, carbon-fiber front and rear aero bits, and the standard flat-bottom steering wheel.
On the other hand, the center console has the numbered plaque so that it could be identified quickly. It will also have a unique decal on the left-rear quarter window, as well as a certificate of authenticity.
Sports-car driver Bill Auberlen joined BMW and Lime Rock to shake down the limited edition BMW M3 Lime Rock Park at the track.
A race car is never allowed to be perfect. It’s the job of the driver to constantly suggest improvements and find more speed. But the M3 Lime Rock Park edition may be close to perfect as you can get, right off the production line. From its great color to flawless manners it showed on the track, for the first time I can say I might not change a thing.
Set for a September launch, the 2013 BMW M3 Lime Rock Park edition will cost $70,995, including the $895 destination and handling.
