Kate Upton’s Super Bowl teaser ad for the new Mercedes-Benz CLA is getting a lot of attention. Naturally there are some people out there who are complaining that the spot is too risque. But the model is no stranger to controversial advertisements. She had previously starred in a banned Carl’s Jr. ad that had something to do with a patty melt. The thing is that companies often use sex to sell, as if we actually had to say that. If that gimmick didn’t work than they probably wouldn’t be using it so frequently.
With all eyes focusing in on Super Bowl XLVII, aka The HarBowl, you can expect plenty of hot women using their sex appeal in commercials, which are bound to become water-cooler talk the next day. But it’s one thing to have a sexy ad, it’s another to have it featuring a beautiful celeb. With that in mind, here are the 12 sexiest celebs to appear in Super Bowl ads.
12. Carmen Electra
In 2008, Carmen Electra was featured in an Ice Breakers commercial where men made clowns of themselves when meeting the lovely model and actress. However, when a fan gives Carmen a piece of gum, it’s so delicious that it makes her utter her safe word “Whoa.”
11. Candice Michelle
GoDaddy.com is known for their scandalous spots featuring celebs like Danica Patrick and Gillian Micheals, but their first campaign began in 2005 and featured model and WWE Diva Candice Michelle. The infamous ad spoofed the Janet Jackson “Nipplegate” incident from the previous Super Bowl by having the busty Michelle testifying before a Congressional committee on broadcast censorship.
10. Halle Berry
The 1999 M&M ad featuring a bikini clad Halle Berry was one of the more popular spots that year. Besides gawking at the beautiful actress, it was one of the first M&M ads to feature the large and talking candy that are commonplace today.
9. Farrah Fawcett
In 1973 one of the original sexy Super Bowl ads ran featuring Joe Namath and a little-known model named Farrah Fawcett. Some say that the Noxzema spot is responsible for the sexy ads we have today. Maybe we should send them a ‘thank you’ card.
8. Kerri Walsh and Misty-May Treanor
With seven months to go until the 2004 Summer Olympics, Visa ran an ad featuring Olympic beach volleyball players Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Treanor, who were playing in snow instead of sand. This just goes to show that a commercial featuring women in bikinis can never go wrong.
7. Kim Kardashian
The reality star left her trainer all sorts of worked up in the 2011 racy Skechers ad. We can’t blame him for getting all sweaty with Kim and her, um, assets.
6. Ali Landry
The former Miss USA became the face of a brand after she literally did flips for Doritos “3D.” The 1998 spot just didn’t make Landry the “Doritos Girl,” it probably helped her secure a place on People magazine’s list of the 50 most beautiful people in the world.
5. Danica Patrick and The Pussycat Dolls
GoDaddy.com upped the ante in their 2012 ad featuring longtime spokeswoman, and sometimes NASCAR driver, Danica Patrick alongside the dreamy Pussycat Dolls.
4. Tyra Banks
In 1997 the model appeared in a Pepsi ad, alongside Cindy Crawford, as well as a Nike spot where she appeared with Lil’ Penny, a puppet-like version of Penny Hardaway of the Orlando Magic. Banks was also one of the lovely ladies in Victoria’s Secret first ever Super Bowl ad in 1999.
Beyonce proved her sex appeal with a sexy commercial for Vizio in 2010. After it was announced that should be the halftime performer at Super Bowl XLVII she released a new ad promoting herself. We’re hoping that we see more commercials featuring Beyonce in future Super Bowls.
2. Cindy Crawford
Supermodels and Super Bowl ads go hand in hand. Often, when the two “Supers” meet, it creates an unforgettable spot. For example, can any of you honestly forget the 1992 Pepsi commercials featuring Cindy Crawford? Thought that you couldn’t. Pepsi knew they had gold with Cindy’s appeal, which is why she has since done numerous spots for the soda giant.
1. Adriana Lima
Adriana Lima is the Queen of Sexy Super Bowl Ads. When she’s not steaming things up for Victoria’s Secret, like her 2008 spot for Valentine’s Day, she’s also kept our attention in ads for KIA and Teleflora.com in 2012.
